The Appeal diacritic font

by Urs App
The Appeal font is a roman-letter font containing many diacritics needed in Buddhist and Asian studies. It is based on the Norman font but has a different aesthetic value. The Hobogirin institute made some improvements to the Norman font (especially for the use of romanized Japanese); I further added accented vowels for the transcription of Pinyin with tones, reintroduced the German double-s which had been omitted in the Norman and Hobogirin fonts, and gave the u with dash an alternative, more convenient lo cation. To ensure the compatibility (and thus easy conversion) of this font with Norman and Hobogirin, some characters (such as the u with dash) are found at two positions. I recommend you use only one.

You can inspect the appearance of this font in several printed publications; the most demanding so far is certainly vol. 7 of the Hobogirin Buddhist encyclopaedia. The list provides the key sequences to type these characters on a Mac.
